THE WHOLE
COMPANY
ON ONE PITCH

Gatiप्रवाह

Nine hours at a desk, almost none of it moving. We run sports mornings on your own ground, and the point of the morning is what people are still doing on the Tuesday after it: a few minutes of movement every day, in work clothes, without booking anything.

The part that goes home with them

A FEW MINUTES, EVERY DAY, AT THE DESK

A morning is a morning. What changes a desk job is the Tuesday after it, so the set below is built to be done badly, in shoes, between two meetings, by somebody who is not sporty and never will be.

Games

Weekly, scored, social

  • Stair ladder. Teams bank flights against the height of a named building.
  • The hundred step swap. Pairs walk a token desk to desk, across departments.
  • Sit to stand. Thirty seconds, counted, retested every month.
  • Reset roulette. A card at the coffee point. Whoever draws it, the table does it.

Sessions

Daily, in work clothes

  • The six minute desk reset. Mobility, loaded movement, breathing.
  • The floor slot. Ten minutes, one room, drop in, joinable at any minute.
  • Walking meetings. A recurring meeting converted, so no calendar time is added.
  • After lunch twelve. Twelve easy minutes at the worst slump of the day.

Plans

How it survives week three

  • Week one, measure. Sit to stand count, sitting hours, one pain rating.
  • One anchor a week. Movement attached to coffee, standup or lunch, never five at once.
  • A trained champion inside the company, so the habit holds without us in the room.
  • Re measure at twelve weeks. The same three numbers, nothing new to fill in.

2020

WHO dropped the rule that activity had to come in bouts of ten minutes or more. Short movement counts toward the weekly total.

2 min

A day of specific loaded movement cut neck and shoulder pain in office workers about as much as twelve minutes did.

66 days

Median time for a new action to become automatic, which is why this runs as a season instead of a workshop.

WHO Guidelines on Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour (2020). Andersen and colleagues, Pain (2011), randomised trial of two against twelve minutes a day. Lally and colleagues, European Journal of Social Psychology (2010).

What the company gets

PAST A NICE MORNING OUT

1 in 3

A dose, not a day out

Adults worldwide fall short of the WHO minimum of 150 minutes a week. Desk-based and thirty to fifty is the middle of that group, not its edge.

515

People meet across the silo

Studies on intergroup contact agree on the conditions: equal status, a shared goal, cooperation over competition. Teams are split by department at the gate.

48 hrs

One page, not a photo gallery

To an aggregate read on who took part, how the room mixed and how people felt on arrival against the close. Nobody named, scored or ranked.

What none of that shows is a changed company three months later. One morning is a dose, and its size is worth knowing up front.

WHO Guidelines on Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour (2020), and the global inactivity estimate in The Lancet Global Health (2024). Pettigrew and Tropp (2006), meta-analysis of 515 intergroup contact studies.
